One of the first sounds that got me hooked on jazz was the buoyant gypsy swing of Django Reinhardt. The Rhythm Future Quartet takes that initial inspiration to the next plane, mixing the joy of bohemia with the drive of the 21st Century. With the pulsed bass of Greg Loughman, the team of Jason Anick/v, Olli Soikkeli/g and Max O’Rourke/g deliver a caravan inspired read of The Beatles’ “Come Together.” Mediterranean moods dance joyfully on “Iberian Sunrise” and “Je Suis Seul Ce Soir” as Anick’s bow cries in ectstasy. His “Still Winter” and “Amsterdam” are soaring melodies filled with passion, while Soikkeli picks and grins on “Bushwick Stomp.” The guitar strings irresistibly pounce on “Made in France” making you realize why you fell in love with jazz in the first place. Encore!
