Vocalist Nancy Erickson showcases a clear and mature alto sound, as well as a gift with the pen as she mixes standards with originals on this release. The working team of Darin Clendenin/p, Clipper Anderson/b and Ken French/dr sublimely swings with flexibility as on “New Years Eve” and is able to dim the lights low as Clendenin provides spacious piano on “Prelude to a Kiss.” She sounds both nostalgic and modern as she bops through “While Strolling Through The Park” along with David Marriott’s trombone and gets wistful with Jay Thomas’ flugelhorn and Anderson’s rich bass on”Summer Day.” Anderson also lends his voice for a laconic duet with Ms. Erickson on “I Just Dropped By To Say Hello,” and the two mix voice and a bass that is both plucked and bowed for a rich and intimate reading of “La Vie En Rose.” Impressive!
