Leslie Pintchik: True North

If you miss music by Bill Evans, take comfort in that pianist Leslie Pintchik must have a dna connection with him, as her touch and spaciousness captures both his romance and exploration her latest release. She’s here with a core team of Scott Hardy/b and Michael Sarin/dr and along with Steve Wilson/sax, Ron Horton/tp-fh and Satoshi Takeishi/perc you get some simpatico interplay between the deeply listening teammates.

Pintchik’s piano flows between the communicative bass and drums on”Let’s Get Lucky” as Sarin’s deft brushwork on “ Tumbleweed” delivers a soft and gentle Brazilian touch. She gets daydreamy on a read of John Lennon’s “Imagine” While her digits get bluesy on”Crooked As A Dog’s Hind Leg” The rhythm team can canter as on “Discreet” or reflect as on an introspective read of “Charade.” Stately and glassy chords  sashay around Hardy’s bass on “Falling In Love Again” and the title track. There’s also a concert performance of “For All We Know” that, although the drum’s mic is a bit out of balance, the interplay between the three compatriots is anything but. As clear as Waterford Crystal.
