Vocalist and songwriter Shaina Taub is a throwback to the storytelling artists such as Laura Nyro or Carole King. Her voice has a similarity to current star Sia, and there’s a dash of quirkiness as well as “indie” in her delivery. Her lyrics are thoughtful and contemplative, and her moods can go from the gospel of “Joyful Noise” to Afro Cuban during “Honest Mistakes.” She gets contemplative about life with piano on “O Luck Outrages” and tells a story with a little bit of grit as the electric guitar is strummed on “Hometown Fire.” As with all young ladies, she’s adept at being coy during “Still Young” and delivers a nice dash of bohemia with the title track. A sing along is even included during “Reminder Song,” she you can tell she likes you being involved in her songs, be it listening or participating.
