Guitar fans, take notice; you’re gonna like this axe-grinder Micha Schillhaas. He teams up with Dave Marota/b, Chad Wackerman/dr and a flexible Jim Cox/p-B3-rhodes who sets a different mood with each instrument.
He’s got the heart of a blues rocker, and shows it on his sleeve with clean picking with keyboards on “Velocity” or on a Bo Diddley rhythmed “Texaleans.” With a humming Hammond, he gets a nice twang on “ Ford 150” and starts stepping into the Memphis swamp on “ Your Turn.” After pickin’ and grinnin’ on acoustic guitar during a shuffling “Double Take,” he shows his deft jazz chops on a chrome sleek “False Fork” which has Cox tapping into his inner Wynton Kelly. As with all things Fender, the best is heard on the blues, and the closing drag of “Slow Blues For B.B.” is a gorgeous river stream of strings. Check this guy out!
