Pianist Ari Erev mixes and matches between trio, quartet and quintet on this successful post-bop album. The core trio has him with Eli Magen/b and Ron Almog/dr, and they deliver some wonderful sounds, as the pianist chimes on “Domingo” while bass and cymbals create a deep space on “Inner Story.” The team dances to Almog’s rustling drums on Fred Hersch’s “Endless Stars,” and when Yuval Cohn joins in on the ballet of “Latin Currents” the butanes get hotter. Gilad Dobrecky brings in percussion for another Brazilian gem of “Playful Moments” and the whole team saunters in celebration on “Treasures in Havana.” Excellent communication skills here.
