Here’s a short and sweet ep by the band Elikeh which mixes Afro funk with ska and a bit of funk on three songs. The bouncy band is made up of Serge Massama Dogo/g-voc, Clayton Englar/fl-ts, Scott Aronson/b, Frank Martins/g, Megan Nortrup/sax, Aron Gibian/dr, Party Pell/key and Michael Kweku Owusu/perc. “The Conversation” has a funky mix of percolating rhythms, crisp trumpet and a peppy groove, while a reggae vibe slithers with some chiming guitar, horns and keys on “Adja.” A hip blues lick teams with rhythm guitar and tenor sax for a rich and jazz “Heaven,” making you wish there were more tunes to see how far this band can go.
