Tenor sax player and composer Christoph Irniger brings his Pilgrim band of Stefan Aeby/p, Dave Gisler/g, Raffaele Bossard/b and Michi Stulz/dr to a pair of gigs for recordings. The leader has a thick tone on his horn, able to sigh with feeling with Aeby’s spacious piano on the eerie “Lost In Space” while blows melancholia with flowing ivories on ”Ending At The District.” The team veers towards quirky angles, as Iniger pops his read on “Entering the Concert Hally” and everyone gets elliptical with the sharp Monkish corners on”Acid” The team shows it cans swing loosely on “The Kraken” while Gisler and Stulz ricochet off each other on “Falling II.” You might get a cut or bruise bumping into all these acute angles.
