Clarinetist Aaron Irwin teams with tMatthew McDonald/tb, Pete McCann/g and Thomson Kneeland/b for a gentle collection of soft and flowing originals. The two horns work on forming pastel tones as McCann and Kneeland deliver fragrant rhythms. Irwin’s stick gets moody to contrast McCann’s glowing strings on “In My Day” whle Kneelands subtle bass line serves as a foundation for the nimbus horns on “The Scrapper.” Long and mellow tones are in abundance with a rice pilaf of a base on “Time and Again” and “The Honored Dead.” Not quite ambient, and not quite Jimmy Giuffre, but leaning in both directions at once.
