Dwiki Dharmawan plays just about anything with keys on it with this fusion based album alongside teammates Jimmy Haslip/b, Chad Wackerman/dr, Dewa Gudjana-Tohpati/g and guests. Jerry Goodman brings his Mahavishnu-inspired violin for an assertive “Arafura” while the whole band charges like the Light Brigade on the complex and dramatic “The Dark of the Light” with some impressive guitar work. Weather Reportish synthesizers team up with voices on “Whale Dance” and ethereal images are evoked with Metheny-esque guitar lines that chime on “Bromo” and propel forward on “NYC 2050.” The leader has his hands on everything from Hammond B3s to synthesizers and makes the pieces fit together like a 3D puzzle. Fusion fans will have a field day here on this excitingly macho release.
