Adam Larson: Selective Amnesia

Adam Larson  plays the sax and leads a team of Matthew Stevens/g, Fabian Almazon/key, Matt Penman/b and Jimmy Macbride/dr through eight of his post bop compositions. His peaceful and warm tone on the tenor fits well on the nimble “Suitable Replacement” and shows he can bear down on “Disguise.” The band shows its funk factor when Almazon hits the Rhodes on “The Dope Pope” and the lyrical side of the band is expressed well on Almazon’s touch on the piano during “ Vanished Theories.” Penman is a rich  presence throughout, and gets his point across on “McWendel.” Thoughtful sounds here.
