Tom  Teasley: Dreams of India

Impressively, Tom Teasley plays all instruments on this collection of a dozen Central Asian themes. Anyone who can master the bamboo flute, keyboards, melodic as well as they myriad of percussion instruments here deserves a tip of the hat. The songs themselves stay within a similar mid tempo groove, most being introduced with some form of a flute-like or reedy instrument such as the alto melodic as on “Om Tat Sat” with some rich vocal percussion adding to the depth of the rhythm on “”Whispers in the Wind,” “Mask of Vrita” and “Sacrifice.” There are moments of mysticism as on the strong “Sketches of India,” with extra dashes of Western instrumentation bringing out fresh sounds as with a glockenspiel chiming away on “Silver Rain.” A well developed homage of song.
