Guitar hero Pat Metheny is captured here in a cozy studio with his latest band of Chris Potter/reeds, Antonio Sanchez/dr and Ben Williams/b along with guest Giulio Carmassi/p-fh in the midst of their latest tour. I saw this band in concert twice and my only regret is that there was no third concert.
Metheny does work with his acoustic guitars, one which looks like something from Star Trek episode. His signature electric sound is delivered on “Kin” and when he plugs into his “flux capacitor”-like “Orchestrionics” you get a full sized orchestra at the flip of a switch. Potter on tenor, soprano and bass clarinet sounds inspired, as he delivers on “Born” and “Come and See” while Sanchez rides the drums like Walter Brennan on a stage coach. The band even does a cover here and there, with a smoking read of the standard “Cherokee.” Most educational of all is the interview with Metheny himself, acknowledged by his peers and fans as one of the hardest working artists in music. You can feel the energy emitting from him in this dvd! Inspiring on many levels.
