Guitarist John Schott teams up with Dan Seamans/b and John Hanes/dr for a rich and sophisticated collection of intricate originals. There is some deft thought behind each piece, such as shifting rhythms on “Eria” and “Egyptians.” Schott’s tone is John Scofield-influenced with a husky edge to it as on his solos during “Actual Theme” and the bopping “Frequently Asked Questions.” The team is able to create some shadowy moods during “Hemophilia” and “By Night’s End” and are able to swing in a subtle and implied pulsating way.
