Cuban Jazz Train: Como Suena

Here’s some exciting Cuban sounds provided by producer/drummer Calixto Oviedo and his team of Yosmel/b, Joel Nunez/sax, Christian/cong and Nathaneal Molina-Alex Rivas-p along with a handful of guests. The percussion is lively here, and mixes well as piano and rhythm sizzles with Nunez’s tenor on “A Mi Aire” and a volcanic read of Dizzy Gillespie’s “Manteca” which has Nunez searing through the groove. Nunez’s alto gets funky on “School Memories” while guest Richard Velzen’s trombone slithers through the slinky “Blue South.” Yosmel’s bass bounces on the title track along with Yosiel Perez’s trumpet , and the piano and percussion rumbles like an avalanche during “Descarga” and  “Danza Naniga,” which is benefited by Lily Hernandez’s alluring vocals. Lots of heat is emitted here.
