Aliquo/Adair: Too Marvelous For Words

Warm sounds ooze forth n this quartet date lead by saxist Don Aliquo and pianist Beegie Adair. The team is rounded out with Roger Spencer/b and Chris Brown/d, and they all play a part on this cohesive collection of sophisticated and well toned jazz standards. Aliquo’s tenor is Ben Webster warm on “Johnny Come Lately,”Day Deam” and the hiply bopping title track. On alto,he coos n “This Can’t Be Love.” Adair’s touch is rich and glassy on Isfahan” and the deftly soft “It Never Entered My Mind.” The rhythm team does some rich work on the cleverly grooved “ All or Nothing At All” and does some nice ricocheting on “Bye-Ya.” This one goes down like a cool dark Guinness.
