What you’ve got here from Maxwell Gualtieri is a solo electric guitar creating various sounds and distortions over a pair of opus-like “tunes” for 26 and 34 minutes. The first, “A Dance” is a mix of Metal Machine Music by Lou Reed and Ritchie Blackmore at the LA Coliseum, with relentless distortion and aircraft-landing sound effects. The second piece, “Possession/Blossom” is almost the antithesis, with ambient sounds on guitar that come across like someone left the recorder on in the studio while someone’s musing with the strings. Soundtrack to a Jackson Pollock painting?
