Lots of ideas bouncing around. Does anything stick to the wall?
Lead by guitarist and singer Adley Penner, Biciletas Por La Paz is a high energy band from the Bay area that deliever s quick and concise songs in an almost tongue in cheek fashion. One minute they sound like a garage band on “Ardillas” and then punch horns pop up on “Robots Dream” to make you feel like you’re at a Tower of Power gig. A neurotic polka gets you hopping on “Babylon’s Nemesis” and teenage rock and teenyboppers will squeal to “The Dance” and “Click Clack.” A protest about the police is heard during “On The Clock” and sounds of Jethro Tull permeate “ Fruitvale.” Lots of directions; is there a center?
Then, you have the band Ou which includes horns (Ersilia Prosperi), vocals (Martina Fadda), bass (Claudio Mosconi), drums (Cristianao De Fabritils), reeds (Cristina Pecorario-Amy Denio) and keyboards (Andrea Pesce) with the vocals in French, Italian, Spanish, Portugues, French, English, Sardinian and Pygmy, for those keeping score. You get some songs that sound like they are part of a play “S’Ou Abbattadu” and “ Non C’e Niente Da Lavare” while Satie-esque p iano meets with Ellingtonian reeds on “Nochdenada.” A frenetic police chase takes place on “Gallone Bocca Larga” and late night shadoews get eerie on “Jengi.” No moods to be woo-ed here!
