Do you want some besides Mike Bubbles to sing to you? WHO DOESN’T?!? Here’s a guy you’re gonna like. Not only does Anthony Strong have a nice tenor tone to his voice and a hip attitude, but he takes songs you’re familiar with and gooses them up a bit to keep you on your toes. He also plays the piano and he’s teamed with a rhythm section of Tom Farmer/b and Sebastien De Krom/dr on a breezy “The More I See You.” Most of the time, though, he’s backed by a Rat Packy Big band, and the brass sounds confident as Strong struts out “On A Clear Day” and does a nifty shuffle of Bill Withers’ “Use Me.” A noirish read of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground” oozes cleverness, and a silky Latin “Unforgettable” is a ringer of a call. His delivery is clear, well timed and he knows how to milk a lyric as on his own “The Outgoing Generation.” Gotta see this guy in concert, and I’m wearing my shark skin suit!
