Guitarist Costas Baltazanis brings forth an impressive post bop album that is filled with glowing moods. Composing all of the material, he brings together a band of Dan Brantigan/tp, Isamu McGregor/key, Panagiotis Andreou/b and Engin Gunaydin/dr along with a handful of guests. The mix of Brantigan’s warm toned brass and the leader’s horn form a rich front line on lithe pieces such as “The Other Day” and “After the Fight.” Camila Meza adds a soothing vocals to “Agua Nube y Sed” while Alex Foster’s sax brings an extra dimension to the pensive “Berlin Sky.” The rhythm team gets enhanced by Brice Wassy/perc and Rich Stein/perc on the exotic “Iasis” and the edginess of “Harlem West” is contrasted with the glowing charm of “Nairobi Kiss.” Baltazani can make his guitar as biting as ouzo or as sweet as a cool karpoozi on this rewarding and rich session. Yasou!
