Conductor and composer Ayn Inserto puts together an impressive collection of Italian jazzers on this big band disc that shows impressive orchestration and an ability to swing. The nimble rhythm team of Emilio Marinelli/p, Luca Pecchia/g, Gabriele Pesaresi/b and Massimo Manzi/dr is on excellent display on Inserto’s own clever “You’re Lea ving?…” and a brassy & dramatic take of Joe Henderson’s “Recorda Me.” Soft reeds create a warm mist for trombonist Massimo Morganti to glide through on “La Danza Infinita” and Filippo Sebastianelli’s tenor rides a roller coaster on the many directioned “Down a Rabbit Hole.” The brass section is featured throughout and can play it strong as on the funky “Hang Around” or genteel during “Wintry Mix.” Some salsa closes the well rounded session on “Subo” which gives lots of solo space as well. Art worthy of the Medici family.
