Pianist Claire Ritter delivers an intriguing solo album here of mostly originals, and what makes it most appealing is the no-frills approach to each song. Nothing is over four minutes long, and not a note or bar is wasted. “I’ve Got The World On A String” is a two minute statement and a “thank you very much” as is her own tunes like the ragtime-ish “Integrity” or romantic “Costarican Dawn.” Her stride style of delivery is suited well to her Tin Pan Alley-esque pieces such as “Soho Blues” or “Blue Grits” while a hint of bop surfaces on “Breakthrough.” Her delivery has a hint of nostalgia to it, as well as a winsome dash of lithe joy, witnessed during the flowing “The Brook & The Bird.” Charming parlor piano.
