LATIN VOICES: Alex Cuba: Healer, Axel Krygier: Hombre De Piedra

Here are a couple albums by vocalists from Cuba and Argentina.

Alex Cuba is a Cuban-Canadian who has a cheerful delivery on this release. The music here is guitar friendly, many times veering towards traditional folk sounds as on “Sarah” and “Vale Todo.” A bit of synthesizers provide subtle percussion n “Ni Fomra Ni Colores,” while his rich tenor wins you over on the slinky “Realidad Que No Escogimos” and “Logica.” Accessible and alluring in its optimistic charm.

Argentine Axel Krygier wrote and arranged this self-produced album that feels like a soundtrack of sorts. Rockish guitars feel like background for a James Bond scene on “Hombe De Piedra” and “Changarin” while a cabaret mood blooms with a bass clarinet on “Mi Piel De Animal.” A mix of reggae and mariachi make “Alcohol” intriguing and a true folk tune is heard on “Marinerito.” Krygier has a dark and foreboding voice that is made for modern rock sounds, rich and deep that penetrates in all atmospheres.
