Gone are the days when guitar trios were subtle affairs of full bodied Gibsons strumming along with a bass, drum with brushes or another guitarist. Here are two axe men that hit hard.
Eric Sardinas teams up with Levell Price/b and Bryan Keeling with a sound that is long on hard hitting blues. His speciality is an electrified Dobro which goes from back porch folksy to heavy metal thunder on tunes like “Trouble,” “Morning Glory”and the title track, and it’s quite a thrill. Other times he shows his rock and boogie fever n “Run Devil Run” and “ Heavy Loaded” while his voice has a wonderful snarl to it. These guys make 70s head banging fun again.
Mark Wingfiled takes a more subtle approach, giving some bluesy jazz with rock dashes with Yaron Stravi/b and Asaf Sirkis/dr. There’s a dark side of the tune on “ Mars Saffron” and “Proof of Light” that gives sophistication to the assertive pieces. Stavi’s bass work here deserves mention, as he delivers a nice mood on the dreamy “A Thousand Faces” and is quite nimble on “A Conversation We Had.” Sirkis handles the sticks and brushes well on “The Way to Etretat” while some slashing takes place on “Voltaic.” Sophisticated strumming.
