On the cover, leader Daniel Bennett strikes a serious pose with his swath of reeds and woodwinds along with his band of Nat Janoff/g, Eddy Khaimovich/b and Matthew Feick/dr. Inside, on the musical side, he seems to be having quite a good time, mostly using his alto sax with his team to deliver rockish instrumentals. Some, such as “The Clown Chemist” have a Middle Eastern groove, and others, such as “Morning” and “Minor Leaguer” mix eclectic instrumental moods with Britt Melewski’s spoken musings. Bennett’s flute bodes well on “Flow” and the joyful “Nine Piglets” while the band with pianist Jason Yeagler get quite quirky on “Outside the Inside Outro.” Fun to listen to and it must have been more so to perform.
