Pianist Cyrus Chestnut continues to bring the joyful sounds that he plays at his local church into the jazz world with this winning trio album with David Williams/b and Victor Lewis/drHis fingers show their nimble versatility on the cheerful swing of “ I’ve Never Been In Love Before” and the bopping “Yemenja,” and shows his veritas on a deep read of “Gloria’s Steps. He gets you to the churchon time with a gospel fused “Brotherhood Of Man” which also lets Williams take the pulpit for a bit, while Lewis gets to testify on “From A Tip” after Chestnut and Williams create a groove deep enough for the collection plate. Lewis also delivers a clever and nifty pattern to add some exoticism to “Daydream” and the team glows like light through a stained glass window on ”Polka Dots and Moonbeams.” Another sanctified session from one of the best pianists around.
