Alyssa Allgood: Lady Bird

Here’s a lady that has bop in her bonnet. Alyssa Allgood has a rich, relaxed voice and delivery. With it and her team of Dan Chase/B3, Tim Fitzgerald/g, Matt Plaskota/dr and Alex Beltran/sax she sings lyrics and wordless melodies with rollercoaster eas on this ep. Plaskota’s brushes serve as her dance partner on “Yardbird Suite” as B3 and tenor weave in and out of the vocals and words. She can reach high on her own “Jaded” without sounding strained and is relaxed by the fireside with the Hammond on “If I Should Lose You.” Crisp as potato chips, she sounds soulful during “Ladybird,” while comfortable in her own samba’d skin for Jobim’s “If You Never Come To Me.” Subtle and low key, but impressive.
