DUET TOGETHER…David Roitstein & Larry Koonse: Conversations

I’ve you live in the LA area, odds are that you’ve been to a gig that had Larry Koonse on guitar. He plays with everyone in every setting when he’s not being used for his versatile work in the studio. Here he teams up with like minded pianist David Roitstein for a delightful and intimate collection of duets on a mixture of originals and covers. Koonse goes acoustic, electrical and classical and even sounds like he’s overdubbing on his graceful “Candle.” With Koonse on electric guitar,th  two can get bluesy and laidback on Thelonious Monk’s “Think of One” and go dreamy on the thoughtful “Bluse for Adam.” Roitstein glides as Koonse goes acoustic on “In Time…” while they both go gloriously pastoral on “Blues For Adam.” Things perk up on the boppy “Blip Blop” and sizzle on the samba-ish “Snowglobe.” A total delight that is tasty, delectable, filling, yet making your want a second helping.
