Trace Adkins: Live Country!

Major guilty pleasure. If you aren’t donating to The Wounded Warrior Project because of him, then you simply don’t have a heart. Second, you’ve got to love all of the biker roles that he plays in movies. He seems so natural. Lastly, he’s simply got a fantastic voice that 90% of all other male singers would give their Priuses for. It’s deep, resonant, earthy, gritty, and he can make it growl on this concert on tunes like “Hanky Tonk Badonkadon” and “Chrome” as well as make it as thick as fondue as on tender ballads like “ You’re Gonna Miss This” and “Every Light In The House.”

This concert captures the giant during a hot and steamy August night in a hot and steamy festive joint called The Paramount in Huntington Texas. Atkins p lays acoustic guitar on a few tracks, but mostly leaves it to the bluesy rockers with a hint of Nashville called Sarepta Gentlemen’s Club. Featuring Jon Coleman/key, Brian Wooten/g (who used to play for Petra), Mark Gillespie/g, Wayne Addleman/steel, Migke Brignardello/b and Johnny Richardson/b as well as backing vocalists Kate Rapier and Jill Pickering. The emphasis is on swinging and stomping good times, but the band can swagger with some grit as well. Adkins is so convincing on the blues tunes, I’d love to see him do a reading of Johnny Hartman material. He’d make it work.
