This big band lead by drummer Tommy Igoe takes you back to the day when bands played music for DANCING! Remember that? You’ve got jazz tunes and standards that make you want to get out your Tower of Power or Sons of Champlin and get down and boogie. The saxes go wild, and the guitar is wacka-wookying like there’s no tomorrow on a hip take of “Mercy Mercy.” The horns snap and the drums shuffle off to Buffalo on “Friday Night at the Cadillac Club” while the percussion sizzles like onions and peppers on soul jazz tunes such as “Jazz Crimes” and “Jessica’s Day.” 40’s R&B gets jiving on”Let the Good Times Roll” and after Randy Brecker delivers a hot solo on the punchy “Plan B” Igoe creates an avalanche of rhythm on ”Quarter Master.” The reed and brass sections feel like tag team wrestlikng and the percussion-THE PERCUSSION- supplied by Karl Perazzo and Scott Kettner is like the running of the bulls in Pamplona. These guys put the FUN back in funky!
