Tara Davidson brings her soprano and alto sax as dance partners in a series of duets here with a rotating ensemble of friends. Mike Murley/ts, Trevor Hogg/ts, Andrew Downing/b-cel, Laila Biali/p, david Braid/p and David Occhipinti/g each get at least a couple of turns conversing here, and the results are quite pleasant. Davidson’s alto can get artsy and bluesy with Braid on the lyrical “Lelei’s Tune” while some playful swing is brought forth with Hogg’s tenor on the fun loving “Train To Tarrytown.” Downing’s cellos cascades along with Davidson on “Kontrbas Semaisi” while Murley bops along during “130 E 39th St.” The most intimate of pairings occurs with Occhipinti, where Davidson’s soprano quietly veers around the strings on “Silver Skates” and both create pastoral atmospheres on ”Murphy’s Law.” Lots of nice impressionistic sketches here.
