Myriam Alter: Cross/Ways

Myriam Alter composes, arranges and even plays a bit of piano on this album that focuses on the mix of mediterranea and jazz. The team of  Luciano Biondini/acc, John Ruocco/cl, Michel Massot/tuba-tb, Michel Bisceglia/p, Nic Thys/b and Lander Gyselinck/dr . The band shows that it’s able to bop with the best as on the jazzy “Crossways,” but most of the time here you’re taken on trips to Andalusia via clarinet and accordion as on “No Man’s Land” or to a steamy nightclub for a tango on “Back to Dance.” Soft breezes from Bionidini and Ruocco create romance on”Again” and some exciting percussion takes you to a souk on “Weird Mood.” Bisceglia shows a slight of Satie’s hand on “Inviting You” and Massot’s brass is hanging out on the glowing “How Life Can Be.” A real charmer here.
