Guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg delivers some adroit post bop material here with Will Vinson/ts, Rick Rosato/b, Colin Stranahan/dr and Kevin Hays/p. His tone is warmer than cool and softer than hard, and emphasizes clear #2 pencil lines on gently cantering pieces like “Wave Upon Wave” and the cascading “Being Human.” He veers well through more tricky and busy drum work on the bold “Wild Beasts We’ve Seen” which also includes some muscular tenor work by Vinson, while the Jamal-esque delivery of “Stella By Starlight” flows like a linen drape. Sax and streams go dreamy on the closing read of Horace Silver’s “Peace” which completes an intelligent record that mixes well lyricism and sophistication.
