Pianist Juan Maria Solare delves into the world of old school tango by tackling the compositions by acclaimed Argentine vocalist Carlos Gardel. The concept is a bold one, and it works fantastically well, as Solare turns his fingers into dancing shoes and struts across the ivories like with a partner on a late night tirade at a local nightclub. Luscious romance and old world charm bounce off Solare’s digits on the passionate “Melodia de Arrabal” and “Sus Ojos Se Cerraron” and improvisation mixes perfectly with composition on the lilting “Volver.” Percussive enough to dance to, yet melodious enough to simply savor, these songs are filled with red blooded sensuality.
