Kellylee Evans: I Remember When

First, I just want to say that I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about hip hop artists lke Stromae, Eminen, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog or John Legend. I’ve seen Eminen on car commercials. That’s it. But, Canadian singer/songwriter Kellylee Evans takes music by these urban outfitters and puts themthrough her own puree, mixing hip hop, soul, and yes, jazz to an enticing mix that is both modern and timeless. She’s got some bona fide jazz vibes with a trio on ”Ordinary People” and “Again” and her winsome tone and joyful delivery is quite contagious on retro 50-60s pieces such as “My Name Is” a Del Shannonish “Built to Fly” and a bouncy “You Got Me.” She goes longhair as in Professor on a New Orleans groove during “Lose Yourself” and delivers a Pip of a performance on “If I Was Your Woman.” You can feel her warm pulse all throughout the songs, as she comes across as eager to please. Lovely lady.
