Brooklyn Shanti: Bedstuyle

No, Brooklyn Shanti is NOT a tenement complex. He’s a producer and pioneer of what he calls “Global/Tropical Bass/Dzancehall Fusion” as well as what we would call “hip hop.” The music here is filled with synthesized backgrounds, foregrounds and rhythms as on “Intervention” and the guest vocalists supply groaning phrases, as does Evelyn Sharma on “Something Beautiful,” or more in the line of Afro Pop, as on “This Feeling” with Jahdan Blakkamoore & Thornato. Rap is in abundance as is hints of indie pop with “Sun Salutation” which features Vanessa Beatriz. Moods and attitudes are in a plethora here.
