Vocalist Wendy Jones delivers and impressive disc here, wisely avoiding the standards and bringing forth material by her pianist Michael Jefrey Stevens. Along with Zack Page/b and Rick Dilling/dr, the material varies between the streetwise and sassy “Highway Blues” to the thoughtful and reflective “Gently Slip Away.” Jones’ voice is comfortable in mezzo soprano as on “Safe In My Arms” and effortlessly bounces around the ranges on “Reborn.” A couple duets with Stevens result in late night cabaret moodiness on “Perfect Dream” and heartfelt luminescence during “Shelter Me.” Her timing and delivery are spot on, knowing when to hold ‘em and fold ‘em. Fresh and fun!
