SHAKE THAT BELLY…Jalilah’s Raks Sharki: Stage Cuts

Hey, gals, wanna work off some of those love handles? Need some elasticity and strength on those core muscles? Just pop a few songs on this release for about a 15 minute session everyday and you’ll see the pounds come right off! You’ve got music from the Middle East performed by the likes of Jalilah (Lorraine Zamora Chamas), Mokhtar Al-Said, Hossam Shaker and Ihsan Al-Mounzer and they get mix the intoxicating rhythms with the elusive and moody strings here to perfection. While a few of the tunes such as “Khamas Tabla” feature only percussion, most of the material combines the hand drums and cymbals with lilting and minor keyed strings as on “ Mashall.” An oud sounds lusciously mystical on “Mashal Tabla” and the flute pops up on “Tahia’s Dance.” Al-Said’s accordion takes a few solos as on “Ya Amarti” and many of the tunes are either traditional songs, or ones composed by the legendary Fayid Al Atrache. You won’t go wrong with this disc that is as smooth as a pashmina.
