Keyboardist Michael Bellar leads a groove-based team of Brad Wentworth/dr-perc, Rob Jost/b and Brook Martinez/perc through a Decalogue of toe tapping originals with a couple of surprises. As to the latter, a Weather Report-ish take of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” has some exciting drumming and electric bass interplay, while Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile” mixes the wacka wooka with some hard hitting blues. The rest of the album has some thunderous wall busters like “Gadson” as well as cooking toe tappers such as “ Oh No Oh Wow” while they even get to the church on time with a gentle testifying “Biscuit Baby” that exudes Sunday Morning soul. A definite choice for the visceral voyages.
