The sextet Karikatura consists of Ryan Acquoatta/voc, Dima Kay/g, Eric Legaspi/b, Morgan Greenstreet/dr, Joe Wilson/sax and Ric Becker/tb as they glide and sizzle through third world sounds. Sweaty saxes permeate pieces such as the cumbia “Eyes Wide” while an Easter European two step gets you in a circle dance on the klezmer-driven “Brighton Beach.” Frenetic reggae beats are felt on “NYC Hustle” and Eastern African guitar licks sway to “Viennese Doors.” Spacy jazz sounds mix with electronic on “Get Together” while catchy bossa nova beats are fun to imbive n “Honey Bee.” No frills, and a lot of fun.
