Trumpeter Itamar Borochov creates a pianoless quartet with Hagai Amir/as, Avri Borochov/b and Aviv Cohen/dr on this collection of free floating originals. most of the songs are between 8-13 minutes, so there’s lots of room for the horns to spread out. The laconic “Pain Song” features the leader’s agonizing trumpet, while the driving “Samsara” and fluffy “Boston Love Affair” allow the two horns to coalesce for some intriguing harmonies. Some spacious bass underpinnings make “Ovadia” warm and hazy, while the slowly agonizing buildup of “One For Uzi” creates an impassioned climax of sax and drums. Lots of arias from the brass and reeds with the rhythm team providing impressionistic groundwork.
