Over three hundred years old and still going strong, the music of JS Bach is interpreted yet another way on this creative disc that includes a myriad of artists shining new lights on the Baroque Believer.
Pieces that should be imbedded into your mind such as the Goldberg Variations, Ave Maria and The Art of Fugue and signed, sealed and delivered by artists ranging from jazz bassist Ron Carter, bluegrass violinist Chris Thile and even dj/producer King Britt. The KRonos Quartet serves up an intriguing “Contrapunctus II” while singer/songwriter Gabriel Kahane does some modernizing on “Dear Goldberg.” Violinist Daniel Hope creates new moods on “Air” and Icelandic band amiina chills up “Passacaglia.” The Cello Suite No. I is gently bopped and blown by Carter and Gary Bartz respectively, making this disc show that Bach made music for not only all the ages, but for all styles. To the glory of God, indeed!
