Mezzo soprano Kris Adams displays an earnest voice on this collection of under-recorded pieces. Two songs by ECMers (“The Glide” by Ralph Towner and “Wrong Together” by Steve Swallow”) display her husky voice in voice in rich settings of horns, while Mary Lou Williams’ “What’s Your Story, Morning Glory” displays a twinkle in Adams’ eye. A slinky groove slides along on “All of You” while Adams glows with her own piano support on Fred Hersch’s “Longing.” Wordless vocals on “When You Smile” and a simmering shimmy on “Pulled Pork” display some of her writing skills as well. Well rounded and richly delivered.
