Charlie Dennard: From Brazil to New Orleans

Keyboardist Charlie Dennard mixes and matches a variety of festive music on this session that has groups ranging from delicate duets with a cello (“Senhorinha”) to big band bashes that hop with hipness (“Quando o Galo Cantar”). Exotic flutes float on “Itape” while the B3 drives home with the shocks getting a workouk on “Africa Mae.” Tatiana Parra’s vocals are a delight on the enticingly exotic “Ganga Zumbi” and the carnival comes to town on the festive “Capoeira Mata Um”. The somber and mysterious “Asa  Branca” contrasts with the dancing piano and acoustic guitar on “Abrindo a Porta”to demonstrate the enjoyable variety on this encyclopedic disc. Enjoy!
