Vibist Tyler Blanton leads a highly rhythmic team of Matt Clohesy/b, Nate Wood and Donny McCaslin/ts through subtly swinging originals. Lots of grooves and driving energy on pieces such as “Never Sleeps,” “Tunnels” and the title track, while McCaslin’s beefy tenor keeps melodies and lyricism intact on “Freaky Dream” and the aggressive “Cogs.” The mix of vibes and drums is exquisitely percussive, with creating music that is infectious, but as in the case of “Breaking Through the Clouds,” also ethereal and dreamy. Deep rivulets of music that you may not want to climb out of.
