Steven Kroon plays congas and percussion while leading a sleek and savvy latin band which includes Igor Atalita/key, Bryan Carrott/vib, Craig Rivers/fl, Tim Ries/sax, Ruben Rodriguez/b and Vince Cherico/dr. Compositions by Donald Vega, George Cables and others feature feathery woodwinds floating over trickling percussion. The mysterious “Camel Rise” has exotic moods, while “One the One” features spry and gleeful percussion and flute. Rodriguez’s electric bass is a delight to follow, and he does some amazing things on “Roots” and “Phantom of the island” with Atalita’s piano teams with Carrott’s vibes on a delicate take of “As Time Goes By.” Smooth and sleek like a silk shirt.
