Bibi Tanga: Now

Bassist, composer and vocalist Bibi Tanga has a pretty large following in France, and it’s easy to see why.  His music has that alluring calypso thing to it, and his Mint Julep of a voice goes down sweetly. He leads a hopping little team that includes a crisp horn section (Gilles Garin/tp, Eric Rohner/sax) and a snapping rhythm section of Mike Bodjo Dibo/dr, stephane Le Navelan/key, Eric Kerridge/g along with various guests on vocals and percussion. Infectious reggae-tinged pieces like “Callling”  or the Afro Funky “So High” mix  earthy horns to the dance beat. Some West African grooves swirl on “ Home Town” while American Soul is felt on the title track. Even the 80s get into the scene, with a peppy pop piece such as on “Love Can Bring You Pain.” A definite choice for a dance party.
