Antonio Adolfo: Rio, Choro, Jazz…

Pianist Antonio Adolfo delves deep into some exciting music from the pen of Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth, sans the title track. The team of Adolfo with Claudio Spiewak/g, Jorge Helder/b, Marcelo Martins/ss-fl, Rafael  Barata/dr-perc and Marcos Suzano/perc. Adolfo’s own title track has an elegant swing with luscious flute work, while hints of Chopin are evoked on the spry “Feitico.” Optimistic and feisty tunes such as “Cuera” has some exciting interplay between piano and flute, while jungle sounds creep into the samba on “Fon-Fon.” A Jazz Age strum on “Nao Caio Noutra” and a lovely latin “Odeon” show a wide swath of colors on this release that mixes sensuality with swing.
