Guitarist Andy McKee made a name for himself a few years ago with a Youtube video of his song “Drifting” that went viral. It’s easy to see why-the technique and creativity of the artist playing the neck and body of the guitar with both hands is visually as well as audibly inspiring. Here, he’s released a four song ep with a couple changes to throw his fans a curve. His rhythmic title track and lovely lyrical picking on “Reason” are what you’d expect from this gifted gent, but then on “June” he pulls a fast one with an impressionistic acoustic piano a la Bix Beiderbecke’s “In A Mist” with a Debussyesque touch on the ivories. He composes his own material as well, and each piece is a tiny opus of richness. A short but sweet collection of four tunes that will want to be added to your McKee catalogue, showing allegiance to his foundation, but setting foot in the future
