Wilko Johnson & Roger Daltrey: Going Back Home

Here are a couple of old timers that have a few things to teach this current generation of hipsters. Wilko Johnson, guitarist for Dr. Feelgood, teams up with Roger Daltrey from the who, and together get raucous and bluesy on a collection of rootsty blues rockers. A burning reading of Bob Dylan’s “Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window” closes the album, but before that you’ve got Daltrey shouting and moaning like a coyote on tunes such as “All Through The City” and “Sneaking Suspicion.” Johnson’s chopping the chords up like a Popeil Vegematic on bunsen burners like “Keep It Out Of Sight” and “Everyone’s Carrying A Gun.” Filled with grit, spit and sweate, this sounds like guys that have lived a full life, not like the pasty skinned kids hiding behind video games these days.
